During her time in academia dr. Bloomfield's research interests were mainly concerned with the study of antimicrobial agents used in the community and in medicine. Most particularly, she was involved in studying the molecular and physiological basis for the development of resistance to antimicrobial agents. During her time in academia she was also involved in a range of projects studying the role of hygiene, including the role of cleaning and disinfection, in preventing the spread of infectious disease in the hospital, food processing, domestic and other environments. Dr. Bloomfield's role at Unilever Research was involved with raising awareness of the importance of hygiene in the domestic setting largely through the development of the International Scientific Forum on Home Hygiene (IFH) (www.ifh-homehygiene.org)
Dirk Bockmühl studied Biology in Düsseldorf an obtained his PhD in Microbiology on the molecular pathogenicity of Candida albicans. From 2001-2010 he worked in the consumer goods industry, where he was responsible for numerous microbiological projects for cosmetics and the laundry and home care sector. In 2010 he changed to the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kleve, Germany, as a professor for hygiene and microbiology. From 2011-2013 he was also dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences. His research interest is in domestic hygiene, especially in the development of consumer related test methods for laundry and cleaning, and in the research on microbial communities in the domestic setting. Prof. Bockmühl is a member of the scientific advisory board of the Sepawa, a board member of the division "Chemistry of Laundering" in the German Chemical Society (GDCh) and member of the Expert Advisory panel of the International Forum on Home Hygiene (IFH).
Dr. Meyer supports innovation and application of disinfectants in terms of product efficacy and application testing. He is actively involved in scientific publications as well as guideline and standards committee work. In addition to that, he is a respected lecturer in international events in the EMEA region. An important part of Dr. Meyer’s work consists of cooperation with regulatory affairs teams and regulatory bodies in the field of disinfection including registering biocides, medical devices and pharmaceuticals.
Jean-Yves Maillard is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Microbiology at the Cardiff School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences (Cardiff University, Wales). His field of expertise concerns biocides; their activity, mechanisms of action, and the emergence of microbial resistance and cross-resistance to antimicrobials. He has a particular interest in sporicides, and antimicrobial wipes and efficacy test protocols. He is the recipient of the WH Pierce Memorial prize (2004), the British Pharmaceutical Conference Science Medal (2004), the AD Russell Memorial Lecture Prize (2012), the Cardiff University Innovation and Engagement 2015 award in the categories Business and Innovation and People Choice and Insider’s Business and Education Partnerships 2015 Award in the category Research and Development. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles, 19 book chapters and 3 books and over 140 refereed conference communications. He has also been working as a consultant for the industry and as an independent expert for the European Commission on matters related to bacterial resistance and cross-resistance to biocides. He is the Chief Editor of Letters in Applied Microbiology and a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy. He has been a member of several working groups for the development of novel protocols, including Clostridium difficile efficacy standard test, pre-wetted wipe standard test and antimicrobial surface test. He is the Director of the Cardiff Institute for Tissue Engineering and Repair, Chair of British Standard Institute CH/216/0-/01 group on anti-microbial hard surface and Director of Biocide Consult Ltd.
Markus Egert studied Biology and Ecology at the Technical University of Karlsruhe. Subsequently, he did his PhD thesis at the Max-Planck-Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology in Marburg in the field of molecular microbial ecology, followed by a PostDoc period at Wageningen University and the Wageningen Centre for Food Sciences focusing on human intestinal microbiology. After that, he joined the Henkel AG & Co. KGaA in Düsseldorf as head of the laboratory for microbial communities, where he led projects in the fields of cosmetics and laundry hygiene. In 2011 he was appointed as professor for Microbiology & Hygiene at Furtwangen University, where he became a founding-member of the Institute of Precision Medicine.
Markus´ main research interests are the human microbiome (intestinal tract, skin) and the microbiome of the built environment of humans. In 2018 he published a popular science book on the joint life of microbes and humans in German (Ein Keim kommt selten allein, Ullstein), which will be available in Dutch in January 2020 (Het leven in je lichaam, Luitingh-Sijthoff).
Andrew J. McBain is a Professor of Microbiology at the University of Manchester, UK. He was awarded his PhD in microbiology from the University of Cambridge. He has been involved in research to better understand interactions between antimicrobials (biocides) and microorganisms, and biofilm tolerance to antimicrobials since 1999. He maintains active research in this area that includes the development and use of representative laboratory models that are used in risk assessment, responses to regulators, pre-clinical and predictive studies, and in formulation optimisation. He has supervised 29 PhD graduates and published over 100 papers
Dr. Jon Otter is an epidemiologist focused on Infection Prevention and Control at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London, and an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the National Institute for Health Research Health Protection Research Unit (NIHR HPRU) in Healthcare Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance at Imperial College London. He was previously a Research Fellow at the Centre for Clinical Infection and Diagnostics Research (CIDR) (King’s College London / Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, London) and the Scientific Director of the Healthcare Division at Bioquell. Jon has a first class honors degree in Microbiology from the University of Nottingham (2001) and a PhD in epidemiology (of MRSA) from King’s College London (2011). Research interests include the epidemiology of MRSA, C. difficile and multidrug-resistant Gram-negatives (especially CPE), antibiotic and antiseptic resistance, the role of contaminated surfaces in transmission, and molecular typing methods including some recent dabbling in whole genome sequencing. His PubMed count is coming along nicely (it’s now >100). He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath), alumnus of the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851, and was previously Assistant Editor at the Journal of Hospital Infection, and a member of the Infection Prevention Society (IPS) Scientific Programme Committee.
Rowshonara Syeda has gained a Masters degree in Health Psychology, following a Bachelor's degree (Hons) in Psychology. Before working at Public Health England (PHE), Rowshonara has previously worked in behaviour and mental health support in children, community pharmacy, and occupational health. Her interests lie in public health, behavioural science, and health improvement including promoting good hygiene, exercise and nutrition. Rowshonara is part of the e-Bug team at PHE who specialise in developing health educational resources that are used across Europe to teach 4-18 year olds about microbes, the spread of infection, antibiotics and vaccinations. She is currently working on projects including a European wide project that aims to change consumer behaviour around food hygiene and food safety through effective tools, communication and education. Rowshonara is also developing an e-Bug e-learning training course for educators.
Paul van Wijk is senior inspecteur bij de Inspectie voor de Gezondheidszorg. Hij maakt onderdeel uit van het team Preventie. Dit houdt onder andere toezicht op de naleving op de richtlijnen op gebied van infectiepreventie, infectieziekten en antibioticaresistentie. Daarbinnen heeft hij als aandachtsgebied infectiepreventie in ziekenhuizen en privéklinieken. Ook is hij betrokken bij toezicht naar aanleiding van meldingen op het gebied van preventie en netwerkzorg.
Hij werd opgeleid als verpleegkundige en heeft als oncologie verpleegkundige en later als manager gewerkt. In 2000 maakte hij de overstap naar de infectiepreventie. Als deskundige infectiepreventie heeft hij 15 jaar gewerkt in verschillende ziekenhuizen en bij de GGD. Vanuit deze functie adviseerde hij ook in verpleeg- en verzorgingshuizen, de GGZ en revalidatiecentra.
Na de opleiding tot deskundige infectiepreventie volgde hij in 2007 een opleiding tot epidemioloog aan de VU en promoveerde hij in 2009 op het afhandelen van prikaccidenten aan de Radboud Universiteit.
Infectiepreventie is een zeer uitdagend en afwisselend vakgebied. Er is op veel gebieden expertise nodig. Zowel van de medische technologie als ook op gebied van communicatie, projectmanagement en zeker ook op gedragskundig vlak. Bijna alle vakgebieden binnen de zorg hebben met infectiepreventie te maken. De snelle ontwikkelingen op medisch technisch gebied zorgen er bovendien voor dat hier steeds opnieuw op geanticipeerd moet worden. Zowel binnen als buiten de ziekenhuizen heb je steeds nieuwe ontwikkelingen. Dit vraagt om mensen die anticiperen op veranderingen. De opkomst van antibioticaresistentie zorgt er bovendien voor dat het belang van goede infectiepreventie steeds belangrijker wordt.
Rita Brouwer is sinds 1999 werkzaam in de schoonmaakbranche. Na de studie Facility Management is zij begonnen als trainer/coach bij Alpheios, vervolgens als Performance Consultant en momenteel actief als Manager Service Concepts. Zij ontwikkelt samen met opdrachtgevers nieuwe dienstenconcepten die bijdragen aan het verbeteren van organisaties en/of het ontwikkelen van mensen. Hiermee helpt Alpheios zorgorganisaties bij complexe infectiepreventie-vraagstukken en het neerzetten van een excellente schoonmaakorganisatie, één van de belangrijke voorwaarden voor goede en veilige zorg.
Haar passie zit vooral in het geven van inzicht en het tot stand brengen van gedragsverandering en eigenaarschap als het gaat om infectiepreventie. De factor mens is van levensbelang, maar een organisatie moet goed staan wil de mens tot zijn recht komen. De kunst is dus om visie, beleid, mens en technologie met elkaar te verbinden. Dit is precies de meerwaarde die een partner als Alpheios aan zorgorganisaties te bieden heeft. Rita verzorgt lezingen en workshops met vernieuwende inzichten, praktische voorbeelden, humor en enthousiasme.
Nina Veflen, is Professor of Marketing at BI Norwegian Business School and senior researcher at Nofima, Norway. Most of her research relates to consumer behavior and innovation and cover topics as consumers’ reactions and reflections to safety, health, risk and novelty. Currently she is heading a work package on food safety communication within the EU funded research project “SafeConsume” where she has been investigating European consumers food safety believes and behavior.
Paul Bijkerk werkt bij het Programmateam ABR binnen het RIVM en geeft advies over diverse onderwerpen binnen het programma. Hij was betrokken bij de inwerkingtreding van de meldingsplicht voor CPE en is secretaris van het landelijk signaleringsoverleg ziekenhuisinfecties en antimicrobiële resistentie. Hij is tevens aanspreekpunt voor de Regionale Zorgnetwerken Antibioticaresistentie over verschillende onderwerpen.
Paul Bergervoet is van origine opgeleid tot verpleegkundige in een algemeen ziekenhuis en heeft daarna een specialisatie tot bedrijfsverpleegkundige gevolgd aan de Hogeschool in Arnhem. Daarna is Paul het vak van deskundige infectiepreventie ingestapt en heeft 25 jaar in het Deventer Ziekenhuis gewerkt voordat Paul de overstap heeft gemaakt naar Tensen en Nolte infectiepreventie, waar Paul het vak in de volle breedte van de gezondheidszorg uitoefent, van cosmetische kliniek tot academische ziekenhuis en van verpleeghuis tot tandarts.

Marjon Gaikhorst is werkzaam als deskundige Infectiepreventie bij Unic Medical Services BV en daarnaast ook voor SVS opleidingen.
Marjon heeft ruim 25 jaar ervaring in de gezondheidszorg, eerst als (kinder) verpleegkundige en sinds 2004 als deskundige infectiepreventie. Steriele Medische hulpmiddelen en de reiniging en desinfectie van flexibele endoscopen zijn enkele van haar aandachtsgebieden.
Daarnaast heeft ze diverse opleidingen gevolgd in NLP (neuro linguistisch programmeren), coaching, trainerschap en communicatie en geeft ze daarin diverse trainingen vanuit haar eigen bedrijf.
Wally Jongenelis is al meer dan 10 jaar werkzaam binnen de organisatie van Kärcher.
Als Product Manager is hij verantwoordelijk voor de strategie, marktintroductie en opvolging van de oplossingen binnen de professionele tak van Kärcher.
Met een bovengemiddelde interesse volgt hij de ontwikkelingen op gebied van "Digital Solutions" binnen de schoonmaakwereld.
Edwin Snoek, geboren 25 januari 1975 te Amstelveen, werkt sedert 1 april 2011 bij Schülke & Mayr Benelux BV als accountmanager hygiëne producten en infectie preventiespecialist.
Voorafgaand aan zijn verantwoordelijkheden bij schülke heeft Edwin een commerciële HBO opleiding gevolgd en aansluitend ruim 7 jaar ervaring opgedaan in verschillende functies binnen de gezondheidszorg.
Als accountmanager en infectie preventiespecialist bij schülke heeft Edwin verschillende IP trainingen ontwikkeld en ondersteund schülke gebruikers middels advisering en training op locatie op het gebied van infectie preventie waarbij uiteraard de schülke oplossingen leidend zijn.
Evaluaties van trainingen die Edwin geeft worden in het algemeen als goed beoordeeld en waar relevant kunt u een beroep doen op zijn expertise.
René Lammerts is meer dan 25 jaar werkzaam als accountmanager binnen Dr. Weigert Nederland en gespecialiseerd in reiniging en desinfectie (hygiëne) toepassingen voor de medische/laboratorium, keuken en facilitaire branche.
De heer Terpstra is hoogleraar Consumententechnologie aan de Wageningen Universiteit en oprichter van onderzoeksinstituut SOHIT. SOHIT is in 1996 ontstaan uit de leerstoelgroep van prof. dr. Paul Terpstra van Wageningen Universiteit. Vandaag de dag is SOHIT geheel onafhankelijk en heeft het onderzoek, naast een wetenschappelijke benadering, veelal een toegepast karakter waarin de consument centraal staat.
Sandra van Soelen werkt als Programme Manager voor Simavi en in deze rol is ze vier jaar verantwoordelijk voor twee van Simavi’s WASH programma’s in Oeganda. Sandra heeft 6 jaar ervaring met implementeren en het managen van water, sanitatie en hygiene programma’s in Oost-Afrika, met een focus op de duurzame interventies en sociale inclusiviteit. Hygiene is een van de meest belangrijke thema’s in haar werk. Het mede mogelijk maken van toegang tot water en sanitatie is belangrijk voor een gezond leven voor lokale gemeenschappen in de landen waar wij werken.
De heer Molenaar heeft ruime ervaring als verpleegkundige en deskundige infectie. Als deskundige infectiepreventie heeft hij o.a. 12 jaar gewerkt bij de GGD Amsterdam, is nu werkzaam voor het RIVM bij het LCHV (Landelijk Centrum Hygiëne en Veiligheid) en LCI (=Landelijke Coördinatie Infectieziekten-bestrijding) als adviseur infectieziekten. In die functie geeft hij adviezen over infectiepreventie en –bestrijding en draagt bij aan het opstellen en herzien van richtlijnen en procedures. De heer Molenaar adviseert professionals in diverse sectoren zoals de thuiszorg, verpleeghuizen, schoonmaakbranche, daklozencentra, ambulancediensten, (medische) kindercentra, etc. Hij heeft veel ervaring in de openbare gezondheidszorg op het gebied van infectiepreventie, waarvoor soms geen (actuele)richtlijnen zijn. Als gastdocent geeft hij onder andere les bij het UMC, LUMC en NSPOH.
Alvin Bartels heeft medische biologie gestudeerd aan de Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, met als specialisatie beleid en voorlichting in de publieke gezondheidszorg. Bij het Landelijk Centrum Hygiëne en Veiligheid (LCHV) van het RIVM is hij als beleidsadviseur infectiepreventie onder meer verantwoordelijk voor het ontwikkelen en herzien van hygiënerichtlijnen in de openbare gezondheidszorg. Het wetenschappelijk onderbouwen van de hygiënenormen, waaronder reinigen en desinfecteren, heeft hierbij zijn speciale aandacht.
